Never Trust a Skinny Italian Chef is a tribute to the three Michelin-starred restaurant Osteria Francescana and the 25-year career of its chef, Massimo Bottura, often referred to as "the Jimi Hendrix of Italian cuisine". The restaurant was ranked as the world's best in the S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2016.

Osteria Francescana is Italy's most acclaimed restaurant. Here, Massimo Bottura, who has also appeared in the Netflix series Chef's Table, draws inspiration from contemporary art to create innovative dishes that play with Italian culinary traditions.

The book is divided into four chapters, each focusing on different periods in Bottura's career and the restaurant's development. It includes 50 recipes with accompanying texts that describe Bottura's inspiration, ingredients, and techniques. With photographs by Stefano Graziani and Carlo Benvenuto, this is Bottura's first book and a deep dive into modern Italian gastronomy. The book is hardcover.
