Which bed should you choose?
The old idea that hard Beds are good for bad backs is a myth we can dispel right away. This is because in the past we often slept in Beds with bad and worn-out springs. A good Beds is something you sleep in, not on. So the Beds can have a lovely soft comfort and still give you good ergonomic support for your body. The firmness you choose has more to do with your body shape, sleeping position and the feeling you like best.
Most of us have a favourite position when we sleep. This is the position you lie in during the first and most important part of sleep. If you sleep on your back or side, you may need a slightly softer Beds to allow your shoulders and buttocks to sink down properly, providing relief and support for your back. If you sleep on your stomach, you need to have a firmer bed to avoid sinking down too much with your chest and thus getting a sore neck and tailbone which can be symptoms of a too soft bed.
HOW DOES YOUR CURRENT BEDS FEEL?
If you currently have problems with a sore back and neck, this may be a sign that your bed is too hard. If you don't sink into your Beds, your body won't get the support it needs. In this case, you should invest in a bed with a medium firmness in order to sink into the bed better.
The same goes the other way round; if you feel that you currently sink down too much in bed and because of this get pain in your hips and upper back, it may be a symptom of a too soft bed and you should invest in a slightly firmer bed than you currently have.
But remember, it's you who decides what feels best for you and which bed is the best for your back.
Weight and height are important when choosing a Beds. To generalise, the heavier you are, and the older you get, the firmer the bed you prefer. If you weigh less than 80kg, you should generally have a medium firmness on your Beds. If you weigh over 80kg, you should have a Beds with Firm firmness.
But it's also good to bear in mind that a rounder, shorter person weighs down the Mattresses in a completely different way to a taller, slimmer person. Two people of the same weight may therefore need two different firmnesses. The centre of gravity in the bed will be more concentrated in a shorter person and it may therefore be better to choose a firmer bed, while a taller person of the same weight would be better off with a softer firmness as the person will be more evenly distributed across the Beds.
DO YOU NEED AN EXTRA LONG BEDS?
The standard length of a Beds is 200cm and we recommend leaving 10cm above your head and 10cm between your feet and the foot end of the bed. If you are over 190 cm tall, we therefore recommend that you choose a bed that is 210 cm long so that you can be really comfortable in bed even when you are fully stretched out.
It's not always the brand of the Beds that determines the quality. Many of the Brands we sell today make Beds in several different price categories, precisely so that there is a bed for everyone. The part of the Beds that most affects the price of the bed is the spring system. The cheaper beds are usually made up of bonell, while more expensive and higher quality beds consist of pocket springs.
Top mattresses filled with latex are generally more expensive than polyether mattresses. This is because latex is a material with good breathability and very good comfort. The thickness of the Top mattresses also plays a role and you can say that the thicker the mattress - the more comfortable the bed!
LATEX
Latex is a natural material with many favourable properties, for example, a latex mattress has good ventilation, adjusts well to weight and normally has a long service life.
POLYETHERS
A cheaper alternative to a latex mattress is a Top mattresses with a polyether filling. Today, there are a number of different polyether materials that often have very good breathability and comfort, but generally speaking, a Top mattresses with a latex core is a better option.
FUTON
There are several advantages to choosing a futon mattress. The cotton in the futon moulds to your body and supports it, giving you the best possible sleeping comfort. Another advantage of a futon mattress is that it is made of natural materials, which is perfect for those with allergies or back problems. A futon mattress is also often cheaper than a regular spring mattress.
FOAM
Unlike a Top mattresses, a foam mattress is already a complete bed and all you need to create the bedroom of your dreams is a bed frame for a complete look. With its pressure-relieving effect, you get a foam mattress that moulds to your body and evenly distributes your body weight.
The more expensive the Beds you choose, the more springs per square metre the Mattresses consists of. The more springs the Mattresses consists of, the more precise the firmness of the bed will be.
POCKET SPRINGS
A pocket spring system allows the Mattresses to work in such a way that the springing can adapt to the shape of the body and different sleeping positions. The springs in a pocketed mattress also help to give you the right amount of relief and support for your whole body.
BONELL
The original innerspring and a slightly simpler spring system, Beds with Bonell springs generally feel firmer and the springs are not as responsive and adapted to the body's movements as a pocket sprung bed.
The Pockets system is made up of springs that, one by one, are enclosed in bags of durable fabric. The solution provides individual springing along the entire length of the Mattresses, which is a prerequisite for the Beds to adapt to the shape of the body in different sleeping positions.
The pocket sprung systems are often divided into different zones to optimise the flexibility of the Mattresses. The most common zone divisions are 3-zone pocket, 5-zone pocket or 7-zone pocket.
Beds with the most zones are not necessarily the best for your body, but the more zones you have, the better the Mattresses will adapt to your body. The zones are adapted to your body's anatomy and provide more or less support along the length of the Mattresses. In this way, the Mattresses helps you sleep in an ergonomically correct body position.
Bonell is the original elasticated spring. Bonell consists of hourglass-shaped springs held together with transverse coils. A thick wire is usually used for this type of spring, which generally provides a firmer sleeping surface.
A Beds with bonell springs is not as supple as a bed with pocket springs. The springs are interlinked, which means that the pressure is distributed over the entire Mattresses. This means that you may experience disturbances when your partner moves in the Beds, something that you will often avoid if you choose a bed with individual pocket springs.
Bonell is often used in the lower part of the bed in cheaper Beds and also in some Sofas & Armchairs.
Most Beds with pocket spring systems have an upper pocket system that is divided into different zones. The pocket springs are adapted to the body's anatomy and provide more or less support along the length of the Mattresses. In this way, the Mattresses helps you sleep in an ergonomically correct body position.
7 ZONES
A 7-zone Beds is specially adapted to each part of your body. The zones of the Beds give you firmer support at softer parts of your body such as your waist and chest, but at the same time allow your heavier parts such as your shoulders and hips to sink into the Mattresses. This ensures that you lie with your back as straight as possible when you sleep on your side.
5 ZONES
5-zone Beds are also well adapted to your body but are not as precise as a 7-zone bed. Here, the torso and waist are often under the same zone, as are the thighs and knees. This is the most common zoning and usually suits most people, especially if you have a slightly wider waist and hip.
3 ZONES
Compared to 5 zones, here two more zones have been merged and the Beds is divided and customised according to more general zones - upper body, hips and legs.
Beds without zones
In a bed without zones, all the springs provide equal resistance across the Beds, which some people prefer. Beds without zones still have pocket springs closest to the body, which provide good compliance even if you don't get specific support along the Mattresses.
