Pattern Unikko, Design Maija Isola 1964
Unikko (poppy) was born in 1964 after Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, had announced that Marimekko would never print a floral pattern. Maija Isola refused to obey Armi's order and, in protest, created a whole series of stylish flowers. One of them was Unikko, which has become a tale of creativity, strength, courage, and self-belief.
