Aakjær Furniture is a Danish furniture brand with deep roots in craftsmanship, tradition and love of wood. The story begins in 1920 in Fjerritslev, North Jutland, where carpenter Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen was born. Jørgen followed in his father's footsteps and trained as a cabinetmaker, graduating from the Danish Technical Institute. His passion and meticulousness laid the foundation for what would become an internationally recognised family business.
A tribute to the tradition of craftsmanship
What makes Aakjær Furniture unique is the use of the rare technique of Intarsia - an artistic form of wood inlay that Jørgen learnt during his time in Sweden. This method became significant for the Brands' expression: furniture where details and the natural beauty of wood are highlighted in a unique way.
In 1948, the Aakjær family moved to Bramming in south-west Jutland. In his parents' basement, Jørgen started making tables. The small workshop quickly grew into a furniture factory with over 15 skilled craftsmen. Under the name Møbelintarsia, handmade furniture was produced with a focus on Danish design, quality and tradition.
A new generation carries on the tradition
After Jørgen's retirement in 1982, the factory closed - but his legacy lived on. In 2017, after an inspiring walk in the Swedish wilderness, his grandchildren decided to revive the iconic furniture. Under the new name Aakjær Furniture, the classics were relaunched with a gentle hand and great respect for the aesthetics and craftsmanship of the originals.
